Behavior Modification and Change
The reality is that our behavior influences our health and wellness. This means that the things that we do in response to internal and external events, whether overt or covert, can affect quality of life. Examples of unhealthy behaviors that directly impact individual health and wellness include smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, unhealthy eating, abuse of prescription medications, limited or no physical activity, and stress. These in turn, can lead to such health conditions as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, substance abuse and dependence, and depression. Furthermore, they can negatively impact relationships, finances, careers, and families.

When it comes to changing habits or behaviors, simply knowing alone does not equal behavior change. Having the knowledge, understanding how to improve and change, and implementing a plan is essential to achieve the desired changes.
The general principle of Meliorem Health's behavior modification service is to replace unhealthy and undesired habits and behaviors with healthy, balanced and desired habits and behaviors.
Meliorem Health's Behavior Modification Program utilizes evidence-based techniques and strategies intended to identify, plan, implement and sustain the desired changes in behavior, habits and actions. This includes relying upon and drawing from learning, cognitive, developmental, social and health psychology theories, research and practices.
Examples of behaviors and habits individuals seek to change include:
  • Abuse/dependence upon alcohol
  • Abuse/dependence upon non-prescription substances
  • Abuse of prescription medications
